KarvináKarviná is a town with long history. The first references to the town date back to 1268. In 1948 nine municipalities were merged to form what is still the administrative area of Karviná. The discovery of black coal (1776) had major influence on the development of Karviná, prompting the industrialization of the region at the end of the 18th century. The oldest local part, Fryštát, is a registered area of special historical interest, with remarkable historical architecture, and the Darkov spa complex gives the town a special atmosphere.
