After the Velvet Revolution, and the fall of Communism, Maříž was recolonized by ceramics artists, and Slavonice has become home to a number of artists. The town has a number of restaurants and coffee shops that cater to a more creative crowd. There is even free wifi available in one of those restaurants, the Besidka.
