Whitehorse

The City of Whitehorse is a Local Government Area in Victoria, Australia. It is located in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. It has an area of 64 km². In 2001 it had a population of 149,000. Whitehorse was formed in December 1994 by the amalgamation of the former Cities of Box Hill and Nunawading. The name Whitehorse came from the White Horse Inn, a tavern originally located in the area in the late 19th Century.
